Photonics West 2023 is scheduled to take place from January 30 to February 1, 2023 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco, California. The conference and exposition will bring together experts in photonics and laser technology from around the world to share their latest research, innovations, and advancements in the field.

The Mascone Center- a description

  • Size: The Moscone Center consists of three main buildings (North, South, and West) with a total of over 700,000 square feet of exhibit and meeting space.
  • Flexibility: The Moscone Center's buildings can be configured to accommodate a wide variety of events, from small meetings to large trade shows and exhibitions.
  • Location: The center is located in the heart of San Francisco, near many popular tourist attractions and within walking distance of numerous hotels, restaurants, and shops
  • Technology: The Moscone Center is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including high-speed internet, audio-visual services, and lighting and sound systems.
  • Sustainability: The center is designed with sustainability in mind, featuring environmentally-friendly technologies such as energy-efficient lighting and water-saving systems.

Some of the topics that have been covered in the Photonics West conferences include:

  1. Advances in optical imaging and sensing
  2. Emerging technologies in photonics and lasers
  3. Applications of photonics in medicine and biology
  4. Optical communication systems and networks
  5. Display technologies and applications
  6. Photonics for renewable energy and sustainability

I presented our recent work, “The effects of high-amplitude, short-duration pressures transients on intracellular calcium response and inflammatory immune response of neuron, astrocyte, and microglia monocultures” in the Laser interaction with Tissue, which received the best paper award of 2023. Receiving the best award at Photonics West 2023 was a significant achievement and a recognition of expertise and contributions to the field of photonics and laser technology. This award is a testament to hard work and dedication, and it is an honor to be recognized among a community of highly respected researchers and professionals.

Networking

Also, as a part of networking and socializing, there were several forums to meet and discuss, such as first-time attendees meet, early career fellow’s consortium, and Women in photonics gala. These events were a great start for conversations and interactions.

Lunch with Indian women in Photonics West conference

The presence of Indian women at Photonics West is a testament to the growing number of women in STEM fields and the increasing recognition of their contributions. It also highlights the growing importance of India in the field of photonics and laser technology, which has become a key area of research and development in the country. Indian women are making significant advancements in a wide range of photonics and laser-related areas, from developing new technologies for optical communication and imaging to exploring the applications of photonics in medicine and biology. We leaped forward to connect with a few Indian women scientists in the conference as an impromptu meet and greet over lunch. I happened to meet Indian women scientist placed in different parts of the world.

Here are few things I discovered that will help me get better from my overall wonderful experience at Photonics West-2023.
